Using his strengths to enrich the lives of patients and residents is a continuing goal for Rabbi Michoel Chazan. His sensitivity and caring personality makes him truly deserving of the Chaplain’s Meritorious Award.
Rabbi Michoel Chazan is originally from the Long Island communities of Laurelton and Cedarhurst (NY). He studied at the United Lubavitch Yeshiva and received his semicha from Kollel Aishel Avraham Rabbinical Seminary. Rabbi Chazan has completed 2 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education. He received a Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Rabbinic’s & Synagogue Management through Touro College and National Council of Young Israel in June 2008 and is currently participating in the Advanced Mental Health training in Pastoral Counseling Program sponsored by National Council of Young Israel and Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services.
Rabbi Chazan has been employed by Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center since 2001 where he serves as the Director of Chaplaincy Services for the hospital and the Rutland Nursing Home. His many responsibilities include visiting and organizing religious functions for patients, residents and staff. He is a member of the hospital’s Ethics Committee and the Institutional Review Board.
Rabbi Chazan is involved in his Crown Heights community where he served as the Chairman of the Board of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, and Yoshev Rosh of the Crown Heights Vaad Hakahol. He was elected twice by the Crown Heights Community to serve as a board member of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council. He is one of the Founders of the Central Committee of Rabbinical Chaplains. He also serves as a volunteer for the Lubavitch Youth Organization Prison Visitation Program, which visits and coordinates visits for the Jewish inmates.
His professional affiliations include an Associate Membership in the Young Israel Council of Rabbis and memberships in the Igud Harabanim (Rabbinical Alliance of America) and Central Committee of Rabbinical Chaplains.
Rabbi Chazan is married to Sara (nee Jampolsky), and they are the parents of Ahron Yosef, Chaya Mushka, Menachem Mendel, Shayna Bracha, and Miriam Elana.
