Betty-Ann Weiner grew up in Astoria, NY where she attended the Astoria Center of Israel. She graduated from Queens College, Bachelor of Art in Fine Arts and later studied at New York Studio School of Painting and Sculpture for three years with the goal of a Master in Fine Arts. She earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Hunter College.
Mrs. Weiner was a teacher in the New York City Public School System for many years where she taught Art at the High School of Music & Art and Special Education at PS 2 in Jackson Heights, Queens.
She is a professional artist who has exhibited her work in galleries and museums.
Betty-Ann has lived in Sunnyside for many years and is very involved in the Young Israel of Sunnyside where she serves as Executive Director. She handles the day-to-day running of the synagogue and organizes all activities such as Chanukah and Purim parties, Shabbat Luncheons and Dinner as well as Outreach efforts like Shabbat Across America. She utilizes artistic skills to beautify the synagogue and recently completed a magnificent hand-painted, and hand-sewn parochet, She is currently working on another set for Yom Tov.
In addition to her many other obligation, Mrs. Weiner has volunteered in many organizations to benefit mentally disabled individuals.
Betty-Ann and her husband, Stephen, are the parents of Adam, a special needs adult, who receives their loving care at the Weiner home.
National Council of Young Israel and Young Israel of Sunnyside are delighted to recognize Betty-Ann’s contributions with the Aishet Chayil award.
